Sounds like you're going to publics in VRChat, which are hot garbage. Stick to bar worlds (group publics) that are actively bounced and keep the kids and trash out. Just avoid ones that are trans-heavy since they're a ballpit of drama whores.
Once you've met a decent group and hung out with them for a bit in game nights, movie nights and the like, graduate to the rave scene with them. It's pretty much the best entertainment VRChat has to offer.

ehhh, ive had mixed results with these
never really got the point of getting drunk in vr and i dont drink, so its usually just trying to talk to people sloshed out of their mind or already in their little circles
ive actually had much better luck joining foreign worlds (japanese, russian, french)
a lot of my hangups seem to be exclusive to US worlds
plus a some of them seem to be happy to practice their english and we get to exchange culture
