Going into the psych ward for some reason I thought the other patients would understand me and react better to me than norms in the outside world. I thought we would all be kindred spirits and maybe some broken girl would break through the barrier and a romance would blossom like you read about on here.

In reality it was just the same as outside: cliques formed of their own accord and I was never part of them but rather remained completely isolated and no one spoke to me or acknowledged my existence in any way during my entire stay.

Sometimes while sat in my room by the window I could hear other patients talking to one another in the smoking area outside, chatting away as normal. Yet never to me. At meal times I ate alone. Whatever invisible mental barrier I am projecting to ward away other people works just as well on mental patients as it does normal folk.
