Personally this is a tough case for me. I'm from a blue collar background, first generation college student. Hell, practically first generation high school graduate. I got along super well with all the guys in school on the GI bill, like we just clicked in a different way than the tightwad nerds that made up most of the student population. But at the same time, I hate zog with a seething fury and have no respect for anyone who is PROUD U.S. ARMY SOLDIER mode. Seemingly, most of the guys I was friends with who came out the other side pretty much hated the army as much or more than me after having served their sentence so maybe there's not much conflict in this viewpoint after all.

I grew up poor but I just chose not to be a fucktard so I was able to go to college on just scholarships and low interest federal loans. Graduated with a pretty reasonable amount of debt and I never had to shine a single boot. Not everybody who went to college without a GI bill is silver spoon, some are just smarter than you. Them a lot of the veterans who did as you describe and just cooked or some shit will come home and want everyone to suck their cocks. I don't think it's immoral to join but let's not pretend you did something virtuous. Why should anyone thank you for your service when you admittedly only joined to benefit yourself?
