Construction companies are not demanding 60% profit margins. In a free market they'd be free to determine any acceptable margin of profit they please and build/sell accordingly while accepting the risk that they might price themselves out. Economics works when you let it work. The reality is that the government places requirements on nearly every single housing project that X percentage of the units must be 'affordable housing' aka council houses. The exact percentage varies between 10-50% depending on various factors and on top of that the First Homes initiative means that 25% must be sold at 30% below market value to first time buyers.

This is insane. It essentially requires construction companies to eat massive losses on every project they undertake and will outright make many projects objectively unprofitable... so they don't happen, which means fewer houses overall.

This is on top of shit like TACPA which makes even getting permission an massively expensive and time consuming process that also scuppers would-be housing construction before a single spade hits the dirt.

If the government got out of the way and deregulated to let builders build while also not importing the population of Leeds every year we would not be in a housing crisis.

My dad hasn't thru-hiked, but has done lots of stretches of the Appalachian trail over the years. It's a whole culture.
When I was a kid Centralia was still a proper town, though in decline. Even when my sons were little you could go on the old streets to feel the hot ground and see the smoke vents.
It's pretty abandoned now, just a municipal building, maybe 4-6 old-timer houses, and lots of overgrown boneyards (whaich are actually cool to explore.)
They've had to move the state highway multiple times for safety reasons, but lots of people still ride dirtbikes, quads, and side-by-sides there because the terrain and trails are wicked good.

15? thats barely cleaning the kitchen that, no way you can clean all the dishes, then clean the sink itself, then move the toaster and kettle to wipe down the surfaces then clean the tiling then take the stuff off the shelves to dust and wipe down then put it all back then take the cupboards apart and wipe down the insides because they get grotty, throw in cleaning out the fridge etc, you cant spend just 15 on bathroom, kitchen, hallway, living room, bedroom etc nah.

Watched it last night. I enjoyed it a fair bit, I found a few moments very poignant and beautiful, but I didn't initially understand some parts, like the strobe scenes and the ending. Media literacy isn't my strong suit. Read up on the film afterwards and it made a lot more sense, made me feel stupid for not releasing what some parts meant. Would give it a second watch
