I've been a SWE/project manager for about 7 years so I didn't have a choice originally, but I'm honestly not sure if it's better to learn with AI from the go or not. You're not going to be *writing* code from here on out like people have been previously so I'm not sure if learning it is that valuable compared to learning deeper compsci concepts and things like architecture while getting used to AI code writing tools.

VS (Visual Studio) Code most likely. Yeah, it has an extension for Microsoft's coding Copilot that does auto-complete and a chat with agentic mode ("do this to the codebase").

A couple of days ago it was totally wrong in explaining something to me, but if you have a detailed enough specification for what you want to write, it can write code most likely better than a decent human will do first time around. Software engineering (can't really call it coding any more, because people themselves won't be coding for long) as a profession is going to become more like project management was, with your junior engineers being AI agents.
